ART TELLING THE STORY OF THE MIDDLE PASSAGE SLAVERY AND THE JOURNEY
BEYOND
we travelled to The next part of our journey which, started in Portugal
home to which stared the Beginning of the Transatlantic slave trade
The Atlantic slave trade began around 1336 or 1342 when Portuguese traders brought the first Canarian slave to Europe. In 1526, Portuguese mariners transported the first shipload of Africans to Brazil, marking a significant moment in the transatlantic slave trade. This history underscores the importance of our mission with Culture Wear, which serves as an extension of the former Universal Tree initiative. For those researching Black history, traveling to these locations is crucial. It offers a deeper understanding of the impact of the Atlantic slave trade and its cultural implications. It's essential to distinguish this from the Arab slave trade, often referred to as the Saharan slave trade, which had different routes and circumstances in Africa. Engaging with these histories in person allows for a more comprehensive exploration of cultural heritage and the enduring legacies of these events.
